2011 Mourvedre Santa Barbara County

Tasting Notes:

Currently, Mourvèdre is most commonly known for its "work" in southern France. However, it is also the second most planted grape varietal in Spain - where it dates back to 500 BC.

At Tre Anelli, we think Mourvèdre has some impressive longevity, and matures beautifully in Santa Barbara County. Our 2011 Mourvèdre offers classic earthy aromas of spice, pepper, and truffle. The bold flavors of raspberry and coffee finish with beautiful silky tannins.

According to tradition, Mourvèdre performs best as a blending grape—but we think it sits in your glass nicely all on its own! Pair this wine with grilled meats, such as garlic chicken sausage over creamy pasta.

Varietal Characteristics:

Mourvèdre is known for giving way to gamey flavors, often herbacious, savory and somewhat spicy tones. The grape produces medium fruit tones ranging from strawberry to blackberry. The tannins tend to be fairly mellow and not overly extracted.

Vineyard Source:

We sourced our 2011 Mourvèdre from the Estelle Vineyard in the Happy Canyon AVA, a warm climate area of the Santa Ynez Valley. This vineyard site is optimal for the Italian grape allowing full flavor development.
